John Williams

Senior Project Director, Research & Development

What is your role and function at WPS?

Senior Project Director for the Research & Development Department (R&D). My typical workday varies quite a bit. Although I spend most of my time developing assessment instruments, I also assist customer service when callers have detailed questions about our products, run the R&D side of our technology initiative, and provide a weekly meditation session to the WPS team.

What issues or needs are you an advocate for inside the company?

I have a strong interest in the future of telehealth (the delivery of health-related services via telecommunication), particularly the legal, ethical, and practical aspects of online assessment products.

How long have you been at WPS?

I have been with WPS since the summer of 2011.

Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

I was born in New York City, spent my childhood in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and went to high school in Palos Verdes, California. I currently reside in Hermosa Beach, California.

What are three personal things about you people probably wouldn't know?

I am a bass guitarist, a fan of 1930s screwball comedies, and a wicked bowler.

What's a big obstacle you've had to overcome in your life or career?

Eight years of graduate training to become a licensed clinical psychologist—some of the most difficult and least fulfilling years of my life.

What is your personal connection to the WPS mission?

Deep in my soul, I am a test developer. The stars aligned to bring us together.

What is your educational background?

Lots of letters after my name.

What is something you are currently studying or learning?

I am a long-term student of yoga and meditation.

What do you enjoy most about working at WPS?

I love the work itself. I'd do it for free (shhhh!).

What did you do before WPS?

Prior to graduate school, I worked for several years in the entertainment industry as a lighting technician for film and television, and I also worked for several years in the Internet industry as a project manager for a web development shop.

Anything else about your background you want to share?

I am the proud father of identical twin boys.
