(STAL™) Screening Test of Adolescent Language™

Requiring no special materials or expertise, the STAL quickly identifies students whose linguistic skills deviate from the norm enough to warrant further testing. It measures both receptive and expressive language, with 23 items divided among four subtests:
- Vocabulary—word finding and retrieval, synonym substitution in grammatically correct form
- Auditory Memory Span—repetition of a sentence in its original syntactical form
- Language Processing—understanding sentences and identifying absurdities
- Proverb Explanation—interpreting proverbs
One of the few language screeners available for older students, the STAL is comprehensive yet quick and easy.
