(AAB) Academic Achievement Battery NEW

(AAB) Academic Achievement Battery

BY MELISSA A. MESSER, MHS

A complete yet affordable solution, the Academic Achievement Battery (AAB) can be administered to individuals ages 4 to 85 years in educational, clinical, or research settings. It comprised of two forms—a Comprehensive Form and a Screening Form. Everything you need to administer either version is printed directly on the forms, making administration and scoring straightforward and easy. In addition, both forms include a convenient Fast Guide to help you get started. Unlike similar measures, the AAB requires no certification or intensive preparation.

The AAB offers age- and grade-based (Fall and Spring) normative data and vibrant, modern illustrations. It was developed using academic standards set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Teachers of English, Common Core, and Reading First.

The Comprehensive Form

With 15 subtests that compose eight composite scores, the AAB Comprehensive Form can be administered in about 90 minutes and scored in 15 minutes. The AAB Composite provides an overview of the individual’s overall performance on the seven disparate aspects of achievement measured by the AAB. A complete assessment of an individual’s academic skills, the AAB is suitable for use in eligibility decisions or intervention planning.

The AAB also offers discrepancy scores between subtests and composites as well as between other measures, including the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children® and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale®. A skills analysis allows examiners to identify strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations for intervention planning. Reliable change scores are available for measuring response to intervention.

The Screening Form

Offering four subtests, the AAB Screening Form can be administered in approximately 15 to 30 minutes and scored in 5 to 10 minutes. Measuring basic academic skills including reading, spelling, and math, the AAB Screening Form offers an optional written composition component (it adds 15 minutes to the administration time). When all four subtests are administered, a total composite score can be calculated, which provides the examiner with a snapshot of the individual’s performance in reading, spelling, writing, and math. The AAB Screening Form is an excellent tool to quickly evaluate fundamental academic skills, especially when working with those referred for learning, behavior, or vocational concerns.
