Children's Organizational Skills Scale

The COSS is a thorough and focused assessment that measures children’s ability to organize their time, materials, and actions. It is an invaluable tool that can be used to design individualized intervention plans, to monitor treatment progress, as a screener, and for research purposes.

The parent and teacher versions incorporate Impairment Questions that assess the degree of impairment caused by problems with organizational skills. The teacher version includes Overall Organizational Difficulty items that are global in nature and help determine the teacher’s general impression of the child’s level of skill within the three areas.

Parent ratings reveal the child’s organizational skills at home and other environments, and teacher ratings reveal observations of the child’s organizational skills at school. Child ratings provide a third source of information that can supplement parent and teacher reports. It can contribute valuable information and insight about feelings and thoughts that may not be easily observable by others. The consistency in the scales and items across the parent, teacher, and child self-report versions makes it easy to compare results from different raters.
