Combine the SPM-2 and SPM-2 Quick Tips with SOSI-M for Better Sensory Processing Assessment 

For sensory strategies to be effective, it’s essential to begin with a holistic assessment of an individual’s sensory processing and integration abilities. Combining assessments can offer a clearer picture of these processes and their impact on function.

  1. Sensory Processing Measure, Second Edition (SPM™-2) & SPM-2 Quick Tips 
    1. What does it do?
      1. Provides a complete picture of sensory integration and processing difficulties in multiple environments; SPM-2 Quick Tips offer item-level intervention strategies
    2. How is it given? 
      1. Parent, caregiver, teacher, and/or other professionals use a rating scale, which is scored and interpreted by a practitioner
    3. How long does it take?
      1. 20–30 minutes for each of the main forms; 10 minutes for any additional Environment Forms
    4. Who is it for?
      1. Infants ages 4 months to adults 87 years
  2. Structured Observations of Sensory Integration – Motor (SOSI-M) 
    1. What does it do?
      1. Assesses proprioceptive and vestibular processing, motor planning, and postural control
    2. How is it given? 
      1. Examiner directly administers items that are based on observations of sensory-based motor skills and behaviors 
    3. How long does it take?
      1. 20–40 minutes
    4. Who is it for? 
      1. Children ages 5 to 14 years
