This 3-hour course examines how psychologists use artificial intelligence (AI) in professional practice, including leveraging it to improve services and increase efficiency. The session will address key ethical considerations and practical strategies for mitigating associated risks, with attention to issues of bias, transparency, and professional responsibility. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of AI’s current and potential role in psychological practice, as well as frameworks for evaluating emerging technologies in a rapidly evolving field.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this webinar, the learner will be able to:
- Describe how psychologists and school psychologists use AI technologies across various domains of practice;
- Explain the potential benefits and challenges of AI integration for improving service quality and efficiency;

Presenter Bio(s)

Adam B. Lockwood, PhD, NCSP, is a licensed psychologist in Oregon and Ohio, an associate professor of school psychology at Kent State University, and founder of Lockwood Educational & Psychological Consulting. His research and training focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence into psychological practice, including AI-assisted report writing, ethical and governance frameworks, and AI-supported research methods. Dr. Lockwood chairs the National Register of Health Service Psychologists AI and Emerging Technologies Committee and serves on AI task forces for the National Association of School Psychologists and the Ohio School Health Services Association. In 2025, he was selected for the OpenAI Academy’s Professors Teaching with OpenAI.
Dr. Lockwood’s recent peer-reviewed publications cover topics such as AI use across allied health professions, bias in AI, and comparing AI-generated and clinician-authored psychological reports. Dr. Lockwood has published his research in Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, School Psychology Review, Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, and School Psychology. Contemporary School Psychology recognized his article “Examining the Capabilities of GPT-4 to Write an APA-Style School Psychology Paper” as the 2025 Article of the Year for its pioneering contribution to understanding AI’s role in psychological scholarship.
