This webinar covers key considerations for providing culturally competent assessments, developing a neuro-affirming framework and strengths-based language when providing autism assessments, and creating neuro-informed narrative reports. At the end of this on-demand webinar, the learner will be able to:
After Part 1, “Multicultural Assessments,” presented by Dr. Linda McGhee, participants will be able to:
- Define key cultural and ethical considerations relating to the assessment process; and
- Describe effective strategies for clinicians to create more culturally aware assessment reports.
After Part 2, “Neuro-Informed Assessments,” presented by Dr. Marilyn Monteiro, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key elements of at least one of the three distinctive Descriptive Triangles that depict brain styles for autism, attention/focus, and learning differences; and
- Demonstrate the skills necessary to reframe at least three diagnostic deficit-based terms into strengths-based, neuro-informed descriptive terms.
After Part 3, “Five Key Factors to Create Culturally Competent and Neuro-Informed Report Narratives,” presented by Dr. Linda McGhee and Dr. Marilyn Monteiro, participants will be able to:

Presenter Bios
Linda McGhee, JD, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist and nationally recognized moderator, mental health expert, and speaker. She has been featured in the Washington Post, New York Times, Huffington Post, and Grown and Flown. She has appeared on the Testing Psychologist podcast, presenting on unconscious bias, culturally sensitive assessments, and advocacy and assessment. Dr. McGhee is the APA president of the Assessment Psychology section of Division 12, the Society of Clinical Psychology. She is a past president of the Maryland Psychological Association.
Dr. McGhee is one of the nation’s foremost experts on culturally sensitive testing and assessment for diverse populations. She worked as an attorney prior to obtaining a PsyD at George Washington University (GWU). Dr. McGhee currently teaches assessment at GWU’s Forensic Psychology program and is a visiting assistant professor in the PsyD program. She has addressed national organizations, school associations, psychology practices, and school psychologist groups on diversity in assessment. To facilitate these important conversations, Dr. McGhee formed the Multicultural Assessment Community, which hosted its third conference in October 2023. She contributed a chapter on the assessment of diverse populations with bipolar disorder to the book Psychological Assessment of Bipolar Spectrum Disorders, edited by James Kleiger and Irving Weiner. She is currently collaborating on a book chapter on the assessment of African Americans in the Essentials series. Dr. McGhee hosts the new podcast The Multicultural Psychologist, in which she explores issues at the intersection of culture and psychology.
Marilyn Monteiro, PhD, a licensed psychologist and licensed specialist in school psychology, is an expert in the area of autism spectrum brain style differences. She is the author of three books, the MIGDAS™-2 autism test protocol, several book chapters, and numerous journal articles. For four decades, she maintained a clinical consultation practice that specialized in supporting individuals with autism spectrum differences and their families, including consulting in area school districts and training school assessment staff. Dr. Monteiro currently provides international training for clinicians in the areas of autism evaluations, linking interventions to the individualized evaluation process, and family therapy techniques to support individuals with autism spectrum brain style differences. Her third book, A Clinician’s Guide to Neuro-Informed Care: Revealing the Autism Story was published by Routledge in June of this year.
