Safety Warning Choking Hazard CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Supervision is required for children under 3 years.

Based on research with more than 4,000 children, this brief assessment gives you a useful overview of a child’s developmental status relative to his or her peers. The MAP provides a separate form for each of six age levels, and each form evaluates five performance areas, yielding the following Index Scores:

  • Foundations Index Assesses abilities involving basic motor tasks and the awareness of sensations.

  • Coordination Index Assesses complex gross, fine, and oral motor abilities.

  • Verbal Index Focuses on memory, sequencing, comprehension, association, and expression in a verbal context.

  • Nonverbal Index Examines memory, sequencing, visualization, and the performance of mental manipulations not requiring spoken language.

  • Complex Tasks Index Measures sensorimotor abilities in conjunction with cognitive abilities that require interpretation of visuospatial information.

Items are objective and easy to administer and score. A color-coded Record Form shows age-appropriate performance for each item.
